The Fraudulent Sugar Industry

Let me tell you a story about people we know and love every day. Frank has always been health conscious. He regularly works out four to five times per week, gets plenty of sleep just about every night, eats a diet of whole foods including vegetables every day, eats low fat and low salt. Frank has been doing this for a few decades; however, lately he had been having multiple troubles regarding his health. Frank’s blood pressure is elevated, he has been diagnosed with high cholesterol and Type 2 Diabetes, he wake’s several times at night to use the bathroom, experiences headaches a couple times a week, and feels achy most days. Lately he has been putting on weight and his doctor has put him on a statin to artificially lower his cholesterol, Metformin to help “control” his blood sugar, two blood pressure medications to suppress his blood pressure, Ambien to help him sleep and told to take Tylenol for his aches and pains...

If you have been following me writings for some time, you have heard me talk about Ancel Keys and his heinous work to destroy the health of humanity while making a name for himself. Well, there is more to the story, so much more! Back in the 1960’s the sugar industry paid scientist to down play the link between sugar and heart disease, while at the same time promoting saturated fats as the culprit. Newly released historical documents recently published in JAMA demonstrate this truth!

The documents show that a trade group called the Sugar Research Foundation, known today as the Sugar Association, paid off three Harvard scientists in 1967 to publish in the New England Journal of Medicine, minimizing the link between sugar and heart disease while simultaneously amplifying saturated fats as the culprit. One of these scientists, D. Mark Hegsted, went on to become the head of nutrition at the US Department of Agriculture, where in 1977 he helped change the federal government’s dietary guidelines. These guidelines lead to the food pyramid, a horrible food guide, heavily laden with a high carbohydrate diet while promoting a low fat and low protein diet. It is this dietary guideline that has led to so many inflammatory conditions, conditions that allow our allopathic providers to prescribed so many drugs.

In 2015, an article in The NY Times revealed that Coca-Cola had provided millions of dollars in funding research to play down the link between sugary drinks and obesity. In 2016, the Associated Press reported that candy makers were funding studies claiming that children, OUR children, who eat candy tend to weigh less than those who do not. Understand that it wasn’t until 1984 that medical journals required researchers to disclose their funding sources (You should check for yourself the efficacy of ALL the studies the dairy association has published since 1938!).

In recent years, the American Heart Association, the World Health Organization and other health authorities have also begun to warn that too much added sugar increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases. The whole time the sugar industry has tried to produce research to exonerate sugar as a major risk factor for heart disease. Given the data that we have today, we know that refined carbohydrates and sweetened beverages are huge risk factors for cardiovascular disease. We also know that dietary fats are very important to reducing risk.

As for our friend or relative, Frank, stopping the consumption of foods of commerce will forever change his lot, reducing the need of toxic medications.
